Continuing Medical Education | October 2026

Dr Bob Jang recently hosted an engaging educational evening for local general practitioners and leading physiotherapists, sharing the latest advances in shoulder and elbow surgery and discussing contemporary approaches to managing complex upper limb conditions.

The evening brought together a highly experienced group of healthcare professionals for an interactive discussion focused on improving clinical decision-making, strengthening multidisciplinary collaboration and optimising patient outcomes.

Advances in Arthroscopic Rotator Cuff Repair

The first session explored evolving techniques in arthroscopic rotator cuff repair, with a particular focus on improving the biological environment for tendon healing.

Dr Jang discussed emerging strategies in biological tendon augmentation, including techniques aimed at enhancing tendon quality and promoting healing at the enthesis — the critical interface where tendon attaches to bone.

The presentation highlighted how advances in surgical techniques, implant technology and biological augmentation may contribute to more reliable tendon healing and improved long-term outcomes following rotator cuff repair ie. reduced Retear rates.

Understanding and Managing Elbow Trauma

The second session focused on elbow trauma, ranging from simple elbow dislocations to complex fracture-dislocations involving significant bony and ligamentous injuries.

Through clinical cases and interactive discussions, Dr Jang explored injury patterns, clinical assessment, indications for surgical intervention and the principles of rehabilitation.

Particular emphasis was placed on recognising complex injuries early, understanding elbow stability and balancing the need for protection with timely mobilisation to optimise functional recovery.

Bridging the Gap Between Primary Care and Specialist Surgery

The evening was met with enthusiastic participation and thoughtful discussion from an engaged audience of experienced general practitioners and physiotherapists.

Dr Jang is committed to ongoing education and collaboration with the broader healthcare community. Through regular educational events, he aims to bridge the gap between primary healthcare providers, physiotherapists and orthopaedic subspecialists.

By sharing contemporary surgical knowledge, discussing practical management pathways and encouraging open communication, these sessions help promote a more coordinated approach to patient care.

Ultimately, the goal is simple: better communication, informed clinical decisions and improved patient outcomes, experiences and satisfaction throughout their treatment journey.

Dr Jang looks forward to continuing these educational initiatives and strengthening relationships with colleagues across Sydney’s healthcare community.
