International Shoulder Surgery Visitation, Conferences and Collaboration – USA, October 2026

In October 2026, Dr Bob Jang travelled to Medford, Oregon, for a surgical observership with internationally respected shoulder surgeon Dr Patrick Denard. During his visit to the Orthopedic Outpatient Center, Dr Jang scrubbed in for multiple shoulder operations, gaining valuable insights into surgical techniques, clinical decision-making, operating theatre efficiency and the coordination of multidisciplinary surgical teams. The experience provided an opportunity to exchange ideas, observe different approaches to complex shoulder pathology and reflect on ways to continually refine surgical practice.

Following his visit to Oregon, Dr Jang travelled to Naples, Florida, to participate in further advanced surgical education at the Arthrex headquarters. His visit included an introduction to the history and evolution of surgical instrumentation, a dedicated cadaveric arthroscopy laboratory exploring emerging surgical technologies, and participation in advanced shoulder arthroscopy and shoulder arthroplasty courses, including The Cowboy Way. The program also provided opportunities to engage with internationally recognised shoulder surgeons, educators and industry leaders, fostering professional relationships, knowledge exchange and potential future research collaborations.

Dr Jang recognises the important role that responsible collaboration between clinicians, researchers and medical technology innovators can play in advancing orthopaedic surgery. Such collaboration is most valuable when combined with independent clinical judgement, critical evaluation of emerging technologies and meaningful clinical research, including patient-reported outcome measures. Ultimately, these experiences reinforce Dr Jang’s ongoing commitment to professional development, evidence-based surgical practice and improving the quality of care for patients with complex shoulder and elbow conditions.

Advancing Shoulder and Elbow Care Through Education and Collaboration

Continuing Medical Education | October 2026

Dr Bob Jang recently hosted an engaging educational evening for local general practitioners and leading physiotherapists, sharing the latest advances in shoulder and elbow surgery and discussing contemporary approaches to managing complex upper limb conditions.

The evening brought together a highly experienced group of healthcare professionals for an interactive discussion focused on improving clinical decision-making, strengthening multidisciplinary collaboration and optimising patient outcomes.

Advances in Arthroscopic Rotator Cuff Repair

The first session explored evolving techniques in arthroscopic rotator cuff repair, with a particular focus on improving the biological environment for tendon healing.

Dr Jang discussed emerging strategies in biological tendon augmentation, including techniques aimed at enhancing tendon quality and promoting healing at the enthesis — the critical interface where tendon attaches to bone.

The presentation highlighted how advances in surgical techniques, implant technology and biological augmentation may contribute to more reliable tendon healing and improved long-term outcomes following rotator cuff repair ie. reduced Retear rates.

Understanding and Managing Elbow Trauma

The second session focused on elbow trauma, ranging from simple elbow dislocations to complex fracture-dislocations involving significant bony and ligamentous injuries.

Through clinical cases and interactive discussions, Dr Jang explored injury patterns, clinical assessment, indications for surgical intervention and the principles of rehabilitation.

Particular emphasis was placed on recognising complex injuries early, understanding elbow stability and balancing the need for protection with timely mobilisation to optimise functional recovery.

Bridging the Gap Between Primary Care and Specialist Surgery

The evening was met with enthusiastic participation and thoughtful discussion from an engaged audience of experienced general practitioners and physiotherapists.

Dr Jang is committed to ongoing education and collaboration with the broader healthcare community. Through regular educational events, he aims to bridge the gap between primary healthcare providers, physiotherapists and orthopaedic subspecialists.

By sharing contemporary surgical knowledge, discussing practical management pathways and encouraging open communication, these sessions help promote a more coordinated approach to patient care.

Ultimately, the goal is simple: better communication, informed clinical decisions and improved patient outcomes, experiences and satisfaction throughout their treatment journey.

Dr Jang looks forward to continuing these educational initiatives and strengthening relationships with colleagues across Sydney’s healthcare community.

September 2026 | Orthopaedic Theatre Education Day at Kareena Private Hospital

In September 2026, Dr Bob Jang was invited to deliver an educational presentation at Kareena Private Hospital’s Orthopaedic Theatre Education Day. His presentation focused on common shoulder and elbow conditions, providing theatre nursing staff with a deeper understanding of the underlying pathology, clinical decision-making behind surgical intervention, and the surgical techniques used to treat these conditions.

Dr Jang emphasised the importance of education in fostering a collaborative and efficient operating theatre environment. By understanding not only what a surgeon is doing, but also why each step is performed, nursing staff can better anticipate surgical requirements, improve theatre efficiency, and develop greater confidence and enjoyment in their roles. The education day was also generously supported by industry partners, who provided interactive workshops and hands-on training opportunities, allowing nursing staff to further develop their practical skills and familiarity with orthopaedic instruments and surgical techniques. Such initiatives highlight the importance of ongoing multidisciplinary education in delivering high-quality patient care.

September 2026 | Vancouver, Canada

Dr Bob Jang recently attended the International Congress of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery (ICSES) 2026 in Vancouver, Canada, joining leading shoulder and elbow surgeons from around the world for one of the specialty’s most prestigious international scientific meetings.

The congress brought together internationally recognised surgeons, researchers and pioneers in shoulder and elbow surgery to share the latest research, surgical innovations and advances in patient care.

Throughout the conference, Dr Jang participated in scientific sessions exploring contemporary management strategies and emerging evidence across a broad range of shoulder and elbow conditions. Key areas included advances in shoulder instability surgery, arthroscopic rotator cuff repair, shoulder arthroplasty for arthritis, and the management of complex shoulder and elbow trauma.

A particular highlight was the opportunity to meet and exchange ideas with internationally renowned surgeons, including Dr Jorge Orbay, and other influential figures whose contributions have helped shape modern shoulder and elbow surgery.

The congress also provided an excellent opportunity to reconnect with leading Australian shoulder and elbow surgeons from across the country, strengthening professional relationships and fostering opportunities for future clinical and research collaboration.

International conferences such as ICSES provide an important platform for sharing knowledge, critically evaluating emerging surgical techniques and discussing different approaches to complex clinical challenges. Exposure to the collective experience of internationally respected surgeons contributes to the ongoing refinement of surgical practice and clinical decision-making.

Dr Jang’s participation in ICSES 2026 reflects his continued commitment to professional development, international collaboration and delivering contemporary, evidence-based shoulder and elbow care to patients in Sydney and across New South Wales.
